Problem
Care planning can place a substantial documentation burden on nurses. The project explored whether structured automation could help organise patient information and draft individualised care plans while preserving nurses' clinical authority.
Approach
- 1.Conceived and led the clinical decision-support design around NANDA-I nursing diagnoses, including examples such as ineffective airway clearance.
- 2.Obtained structured nursing-diagnosis data and developed the FastAPI backend to process patient demographics, presentation, and physician orders.
- 3.Generated draft diagnoses, related factors, interventions, alerts, and notifications for nurse review and approval rather than autonomous use.
Learnings
- Useful nursing automation reduces organisational burden while retaining clinician control over assessment and care decisions.
- Clinical decision support must be transparent enough for nurses to assess and appropriately act on its recommendations.
